The questions people ask most, and how to reach us when the answer is not here.
Contact
Write to admin@aknghtstudios.com. Say which phone you use and what you expected to happen, and we will answer. There is no account to look up, so we cannot see anything about you or your writing unless you tell us.
Where is my writing?
Every document is a plain text file you can open, copy and back up without the app. Settings › Where your writing lives says exactly where yours are.
- iPhone and iPad: in the Files app, under On My iPhone › AKnght2Write (or On My iPad).
- Android: in the folder you chose the first time you opened the Library, for example Documents › AKnght2Write. Because it is your own folder, your writing is still there if the app is uninstalled; choose the same folder after reinstalling and everything comes back.
- Desktop: in Documents › AKnght2Write › Library.
Back them up as you would any files you care about. We never receive a copy, so we cannot recover a document that has been deleted.
I said something and nothing appeared
What you say is saved on the phone before it is turned into words, so it is not lost if the app closes. Anything still waiting is finished the next time the app opens. If the microphone heard nothing but silence, the app says so and writes nothing, rather than guessing.
The app did not understand a command
A command the app could not make out changes nothing. It is marked in the margin where you said it, and you can play it back, write it down after all, or throw it away. What you can say (the question mark at the top of the writing screen) lists every command, and there is a summary here. To write a command’s words as prose, say “literally” first: “literally new paragraph”.
It keeps getting a name wrong
Fix the name by hand once and the app offers to remember it. From then on it listens for that name in that project. The names it knows are listed from the names button at the top of the writing screen.
Subscriptions
- Restoring on a new phone: Settings › Subscription › Restore purchases. A subscription belongs to your App Store or Google Play account, not to a login with us.
- Cancelling: in your store account. On an iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android: the Play Store app, your profile picture, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.
- Refunds: the store handles them. For Apple, use reportaproblem.apple.com; for Google Play, the order in your Play account.
- No signal: the app works offline. It checks your subscription with the store on the phone, and keeps it active for up to 30 days past a renewal it could not confirm.
The full rules are in the terms of use.
Bluetooth remotes and headsets
- A remote’s buttons: Settings › Bluetooth › Add buttons, then press each button on the remote and choose what it does. Test buttons shows exactly what a button sends, which is the quickest way to find out whether a remote works with your phone.
- Hearing the app in headphones: this happens on its own. The tones, playback and read-back go to whatever headphones are connected.
- Speaking into a headset: switch on Settings › Bluetooth › Headset microphone. It lets you dictate with the phone in a pocket or across the room. It costs sound quality: while it is on, the headset works as it does for a phone call, and music will not play through it.
Something else is wrong
Switch on Settings › Diagnostics, do the thing that goes wrong, and tell us what the last few lines say. They describe what the app did, such as a button pressed or a document opened by name, and never the words of your writing. They stay on your phone unless you send them to us.
Privacy
AKnght2Write collects nothing. The privacy policy says what the app keeps on your phone and why.
