Privacy

AKnght2Write collects nothing.

No account, no analytics, no server of ours. This page says what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and the little this website does.

The short version

AKnght2Write does not collect, transmit, sell or share any information about you or your writing. There are no accounts. We operate no servers for the app, so there is nowhere for your data to go and nothing for us to look at.

Two things leave the app only because you ask them to. Read-back uses your device’s own text-to-speech engine. When you export or share a document, it goes wherever you send it, under that app’s terms. Neither sends anything to us.

What the app keeps, and where

Everything below stays on your device, in the app’s own storage or in the place your writing lives.

  • Your voice. The microphone is used only while you are dictating: from the press of the button until what you said is sent, or while hands-free listening is switched on and the app is on screen. Each recording is saved on the device so that it cannot be lost, turned into words on the device, and deleted once those words are on the page.
  • Commands it could not make out. When a spoken command is not understood, its recording is kept in the device’s memory so that you can play it back, and is gone when you open another document or close the app. It is never written to storage.
  • Your writing. Documents are plain text files. On an iPhone they are in the app’s own folder on the phone, visible in the Files app under On My iPhone. On Android they are in the folder you chose. On a computer they are in Documents › AKnght2Write › Library. If your writing is in a place another service syncs (iCloud Drive, or a folder you back up yourself), that service handles those files under its own terms. We never see them.
  • Your cast list and settings. The names you have taught the app, your preferences, the count of words dictated this week and whether a subscription is active are kept on the device.
  • Bluetooth buttons and headsets. A remote’s button presses are read as key presses, and a headset’s microphone is used only if you switch that on. To tell one remote from another, the app keeps each remote’s name and its maker’s and product numbers in its settings, with the job you gave each button. Nothing about them goes anywhere else.
  • The diagnostic log. Off unless you switch it on in Settings. It keeps a short list of recent events in memory for you to read on screen (a button pressed, a document opened by name, how long something took), never the words of your writing, and is cleared when you switch it off.

The network

On Android, AKnght2Write does not request permission to use the internet at all. On every platform, the app itself makes no network calls. It works in airplane mode.

If you subscribe, the purchase is made through the App Store or Google Play, under your account with that store and that store’s privacy policy. The app asks the store, on your device, whether a subscription is active. From a purchase we receive only the store’s sales and order records, described below.

Analytics, advertising and tracking

None. The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

What we hold, and your rights

Who is responsible. AKnght Studios LLC, Portland, Oregon, USA, admin@aknghtstudios.com.

What we hold. Emails you send us, kept to answer you and deleted once they are no longer needed for that. The sales and tax records the stores give us (country, product, amount and, for Google Play, an order number), kept as long as tax law requires. We use them only to reply to you and to keep our accounts, and we never sell or share them.

Your rights. Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you or delete anything we hold about you by writing to the address above. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Deleting your data. Everything the app keeps is on your device. Deleting the app and your documents deletes it.

Children

AKnght2Write is a tool for writers and is not directed at children. Because it collects nothing from anyone, it collects nothing from children.

This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from any third party. If you switch between the light and dark theme, that choice is remembered in your own browser and never leaves it. Because the site tracks nobody, it treats every visitor the same whether or not their browser sends a Do Not Track signal. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web host, GitHub may log the IP addresses of visitors in order to serve and secure the site, under GitHub’s privacy statement.

If you write to us, we use your email address to reply and for nothing else.

Changes and questions

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with its date. Questions are welcome at admin@aknghtstudios.com, and the support page answers the common ones.
